Then steam came and at first I was annoyed (why can’t I just start counterstrike? Why must I first start that stupid thing?īut then the store came, auto updates everything was nice, cloud saving was godsend, some reviews, good, discussions, well I mostly play solo, to wind down, gaming, for me is 100% me time, so the social stuff.whatever. I neatly put all shortcuts in a folder in my start menu, made some groups. I was happy in the world you describe, without launchers. I have Fallout76 somewhere and I forget to play it! I don’t even know anymore how the thing is called! The last EA game I bought was over a year ago during a sale. I almost never play my actiblizzard games. Without lying, I’ve stopped buying Ubisoft games. I’ll try to explain my probably weird stance: By demanding developers release games on Steam (or waiting until they come out on Steam), you're just reinforcing the stranglehold Valve has on the industry, letting them set all the rules and write the deals with developers. I too am slightly annoyed having to switch launchers and remember which store I bought the game from, but not nearly enough to wait a year to buy a game (or to harass the developers online).īreaking the Steam/Valve monopoly is going to be far more valuable to the industry in the long run than the small benefit of keeping all your games listed in one app. ![]() It's just a different app to run the game.īack in the day, we didn't have launchers like Steam, we just installed games to the Start Menu and opened them that way. ![]() But this isn't a different console or even a different operating system. Unless you seriously want that game and have the cash to buy the console, you just have to wait. If a game you want comes out on a console you don't own, that sucks. Why are people so against a store that isn't Steam? I really don't get it.
